Cordoba for Lovers

5 Feb

Paris has a hard won reputation as the city for lovers, but Cordoba gives it a good run for its money in the romance stakes.

Walk the arched Roman Bridge towards pale domes, towers and the encircling stone walls of the ancient heart of Cordoba and your heart will beat faster at its beauty at any time of day. Walk with a loved one at dawn, reflected clouds turning pink in the Guadalquivir river, and the sky pale blue, or at dusk when street lights start to twinkle, will create cherished memories for a lifetime. I hope you have the chance to experience it for yourself.

I’ll now let the photos speak for this stunning, historic city.

Flamenco Note: Whilst Cordoba hasn’t the wide range of flamenco performance options of Seville it has a stong and proud tradition of flamenco and hosts the annual flamenco guitar festival in July. We saw the 9:30pm tablao at Carmen, 25 euros for a long, quality show including a cocktail, wine or beer. The artists were: singers Mariano Romero and Jose ‘El Caja’, national flamenco guitar award winner 2016, Francisco Curro Prieto, ‘El Currito’ and dancers Miriam ‘La Chiqui’ and Rafael del Piño ‘Keko’, who was particularly strong on soniquete and quite the showman.

Evocative as ever. Can’t resist the flamenco pics though can you! Not a criticism we got hooked as well but you have to experience it live.
